Obsessive Compulsive Disorder2019-11-04T18:23:39+00:00

Obsessive compulsive disorder is the presence of repetitive and persistent thoughts or urges (obsessions) as well as rigid and repetitive behaviors or acts that an individual feels driven to perform in response to the obsession (compulsions) (adapted from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition). When women experience these obsessions and compulsions, they need obsessive compulsive disorder treatment.

Up to 69% of individuals with anorexia nervosa and 33% of individuals with bulimia nervosa have a coexisting diagnosis of OCD

Goals for Therapy

Treatment goals vary from person to person, but in general, women in our obsessive compulsive disorder treatment strive to:

  • Reduce obsessive thoughts as well as compulsive behaviors
  • Improve quality of life and levels of occupational, relational, or recreational functioning
  • Distinguish real from anticipated danger
  • Challenge maladaptive core beliefs that maintain interfering symptoms

Our Treatment Philosophy

In our obsessive compulsive disorder treatment, our clients participate in (up to) three individual sessions a week and approximately four psychoeducational groups each day in addition to weekly meetings with the staff psychiatrist, psychologist, dietitian, and clinical director. We aim to provide comprehensive, strengths-based treatment to all of our clients. This includes elements of spirituality, mindfulness, nutrition, art, movement/exercise, and psychotherapy. It may also include pharmacology, depending on the need.
