Admissions FAQ

When a potential client or family member calls Magnolia Creek about treatment, they will speak with an Admissions Team member, who will collect basic demographic information, such as name, age, phone number and location, and will discuss any current symptoms and what prompted the call. In addition to discussing current or recent treatments, they will also ask for information regarding any immediate risk factors such as self-harm behaviors, suicidal thoughts, aggressive behaviors, substance abuse and medical concerns. If the Admissions Team member feels there is a safety or health risk that is an immediate danger, they may direct the caller to seek emergency or acute care.

After providing a brief overview of our residential treatment and partial hospitalization programs, they will answer any additional questions. If the prospective client is interested in pursuing the admissions process, the Admissions Team member will verify health insurance benefits and plan information, present a cost estimate for treatment, and schedule an intake assessment to determine the appropriate level of care. Local inquiries also have the option to schedule a facility tour.

An Admissions Team member will complete an initial intake to assess current and past symptoms and treatment experiences, including current daily functioning and as well as medications and health issues. The intake assessment also provides an opportunity for us to review current dietary habits and any current or past substance abuse. Once complete, the Clinical Director, Director of Nursing and Psychiatrist review the assessment information and determine the appropriate level of care.

We recommend that clients bring a limited amount of clothing and personal belongings to treatment, and we encourage individuals to leave valuables at home. Clients may bring two small suitcases or one large suitcase. Each client is provided with a bedside table where valuables can be locked and stored. Additionally, Magnolia Creek provides a comfortable bed, dresser, hangers, closet space, linens, towels, computers (and internet access), and phones (with long-distance capabilities). Clients in our residential program do no have access to their cell phones during treatment. However, once they transition to our partial hospitalization program (PHP), they are provided access to their cell phones. Additionally, each client must bring their own cell phone charger. Household supplies including soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and laundry detergent are provided to clients in the residential program. Please note, clients in partial hospitalization program (PHP) are responsible for purchasing their own household items. PHP clients are also responsible for purchasing the food they eat during non-programming hours.

Magnolia Creek is a community living environment. We take great pride in providing a safe and clean environment for our clients; therefore, all clothing, pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals that are brought from home will be put through the dryer on a hot setting for 30 minutes.

If you bring something that can’t go in the dryer, these items need to be put into a separately sealed bag. Items that are not able to be placed in the dyer will be treated and placed in a bag for 24 hours. Furthermore, the outfit the client wears on the day of her admission will also need to be placed into the dryer and having a backup outfit can be helpful during this process. We also strongly encourage that the admitting client come with a change of clothes available for this purpose.

Additional information about what to bring includes:

  • Identification card (e.g., driver’s license), insurance card, pharmacy prescription card, and credit card (required by Turenne Pharmaceuticals for medication expenses).
  • Prescription medications (in original containers) – at least seven days’ worth.
  • Over the counter medication must be brought in an un-opened, sealed container.
  • Small amount of spending money (less than $200) for personal items. Adolescent clients do not need to bring any money.
  • Stamps, envelopes, cards, books, and music including portable music devices and chargers.
  • Tennis shoes, sunglasses, a lightweight jacket or sweater (in warmer months), a heavy coat or jacket (in cooler months), and clothes appropriate for religious outings (if desired).
  • The use of cigarettes is permitted during designated smoke break times. Any opened or unsealed tobacco products will be thrown away or kept in luggage and not permitted for use. Other tobacco products are not allowed.
  • Vape pens and E-cigarettes are not allowed.

When you arrive, you will meet with an Admissions Team member to complete the admission paperwork, and she will provide you with a client handbook and a welcome bag that includes therapeutic books and a t-shirt. Following your admissions, a therapist will meet with you to assess suicide and safety risks, as well as create a therapeutic safety plan.

Following these meetings, you will begin your assessments. Assessments play a valuable role in the treatment process and help us to determine the type of therapy needed to form your individualized treatment plan. You will be assigned several self-assessments including screenings for depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions and eating disorders. You will also complete the EDI-III, BAI, BDI, and PTSI assessments as well as the VIA Survey of Character Strengths. We will then review your coping skills and spirituality, which will all be used on your recovery journey.

Our goal is to provide each client with a collaborative environment that is individualized to each client’s recovery needs. Through a holistic program, our treatment addresses each client’s specific medical, nutritional, psychological, spiritual, and behavioral needs. First, each client meets with the nursing staff, a psychiatrist, their primary therapist, dietitian, and family therapist to complete initial assessments and ascertain the therapeutic issues that led them to treatment. During these initial meetings, the treatment planning process begins. Once the assessments are complete, each client attends daily psycho education and process groups. Group therapy topics include nutrition, coping skills, healthy relationships, body appreciation, addictive behaviors, creative arts, and relapse prevention. The therapists employ a variety of different treatment modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, experiential therapy, and somatic experiencing based on the individual client and the specific group. Each client meets with their therapist twice a week, their family therapist once a week, and the dietitian once a week.
Our dietician will complete your initial nutrition assessment within 48 hours of admission. Based on the assessment, she will then calculate your energy, protein, and fluid needs. Once these needs are determined, your individualized meal plan will be created, and the dietician will work with you on how to use your meal plan and create personalized menus.

If you’re ready to take the next step in the eating disorder recovery process for you or your loved one, the compassionate team at Magnolia Creek is here to help. Give us a call at 205-678-4373 or complete our contact form.
