Monday Nutrition Group

Our Monday afternoon Nutrition Group provides education on a variety of nutrition, food, and body-related topics. Using a combination of nutrition education, nutrition therapy/processing, and experiential activities, a few of the topics and activities we cover include:

Achieving Weight Restoration

  • Nutrition and Body Image
  • Orthorexia
  • Sensory Perception – how malnutrition can affect taste and smell
  • Micronutrient Education
  • Personality/Leadership Style – how identifying your personality type can help you set specific and personalized goals for recovery from maladaptive bx
  • Water and Hydration
  • Caffeine
  • Fad Diets

Tuesday Lunch/Grocery Outing & Process

On Tuesdays, dietitians accompany clients on a lunch outing. During Community Group, clients suggest three restaurants and the dietitians choose one of the options and provide meal guidelines. Prior to leaving, we lead a short Nutrition Therapy Process Group, allowing clients time to acknowledge any anxiety they are experiencing. Upon return, clients attend a group session to process and debrief the overall outing experience. PHP clients and dietitians also grocery shop after the lunch outing.

Individual therapy is often the best place to start. This allows clients to hone in on the specific issues that are impacting them. Plus, it is a way for clients to be open and vulnerable without fear of being judged. This may also be the right time to discuss mental health concerns and receive dual diagnosis support.

Group therapy can also be incredibly beneficial. Clients can learn from their peers and see the strength of fellow women. It is empowering to speak up in front of a group, feel connected to others, and participate in a group activity. In the same way, family therapy can empower clients and help them to see their place in the family unit.

Thursday Nutrition Group

Thursday Nutrition Group dives into the ten principles of Intuitive Eating and touches on the Health at Every Size philosophy and the Body Positivity Movement. Additionally, we discuss creating a healthy relationship with food, movement, and body image. The Ten Principles of Intuitive Eating are as follows:

  • Reject the Diet Mentality
  • Honor your Hunger
  • Make Peace with Food
  • Challenge the Food Police
  • Feel/Respect your Fullness
  • Seek Satisfaction & Pleasure
  • Honor your Feelings without using Food
  • Respect your Body
  • Engage in Joyful Movement
  • Honor your Body with Gentle Nutrition

Thursday Snack Outing

On Thursday afternoons, the dietitians take the clients on a snack outing. During Community Group, clients suggest three snack outing locations and the dietitians choose one of the options and provide snack guidelines. Prior to leaving, we lead a short Nutrition Therapy Process Group, allowing clients time to acknowledge any anxiety they are experiencing. Upon return, clients attend a Mindfulness Group to process and debrief the overall outing experience.t work best for them.

Friday Experiential Nutrition Group

During Experiential Nutrition Group, clients are not only educated on a variety of nutrition and food-related topics, but they also gain hands-on exposure and experience in these areas, such as:

  • Mindful Eating Activity
  • Exposure Therapy with Fear Foods
  • Process Walks Around the Lake
  • Cooking/Baking Activities
  • Creative Arts-Body Image Activities
