Dual Diagnosis Mental Health Treatment
Because we know that there are valid reasons as to why we engage in numbing and unhealthy coping behaviors, Magnolia Creek Treatment Center for Eating Disorders is dually licensed to treat eating disorders as well as mental health disorders. This is called dual diagnosis mental health treatment. We treat all kinds of co-occurring disorders, including depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, and dissociative disorders.
One of the most beautiful and powerful aspects of our community is that everyone can learn they are not alone. They also learn to challenge shame they have carried, often for years, believing there is something inherently wrong with them. While engaging in treatment and interacting with the community, each woman learns that even though individuals may employ different coping behaviors, the reasons we feel that we should cope, change our feelings, and find some relief is often very similar.
Mental Health Treatment Methods
Through individual and group therapy, we can identify new ways to cope. We can also challenge cognitive distortions that have prevented us from seeing our value. In addition, we can process experiences that may have negatively contributed to the way we see the world and ourselves. Lastly, we can manage any neurochemical imbalances that may exist through psychiatric medicine if desired.
Family therapy is also a part of treatment, as we believe it is important for each woman to have a healthy support system. We honor that clients define family in many ways, so we work collaboratively with each client to identify who could be a strong support for her.
Because we know what we put into our bodies nutritionally has a direct impact on how we feel, both physically and emotionally, each client also meets weekly with a dietitian to develop an individualized meal plan.
