Family Program
Eating disorders affect not just the individual, but his or her entire family, who themselves require healing and understanding. At Magnolia Creek, we recognize that family relationships can provide vital information for a better understanding of the eating disorder, and we believe that families can play a powerful role in recovery.
Family Nights
Each week, Magnolia Creek hosts a family night for local and visiting family members and loved ones to provide them an opportunity to attend groups and family therapy:
Family Therapy
Our primary therapists are available before family night to meet with residents and their families (by phone or in person) for private therapy sessions to explore family dynamics, determine potential goals related to family functioning, and promote family healing.
Family Education and Support
Family night begins with an Education and Support group, which educates families about eating disorders and residential treatment, addresses concerns they may be having, and provides support.
Multi-Family Group
Family night concludes with Multi-family group, led by the Clinical Director. The group promotes exploration of family dynamics that may be impacted by the eating disorder and provides a forum for both residents and their families to discuss the treatment process.
Family Weekends
Family weekends take place every six weeks, providing local and visiting family members the opportunity to more actively and intensively participate in the treatment process. The weekend is focused around providing family members with information and tools to cope with eating disorder behaviors and promote recovery.
Educational classes, shared meals, individual appointments with clinicians, and group therapy sessions occur throughout the weekend. There is ample time for visiting, and activities like family walks around the lake, picnics, gameboard tournaments and an evening bonfire are scheduled to provide time for sharing and celebration.
