Groups with a Therapy Focus

Process Group
Process groups are held daily and led by one of our therapists. The group provides a venue for clients to address and identify issues related to their eating disorder symptoms, practice communications skills, share assignments and projects, discuss progress in recovery and process relationship issues.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Group
CBT focuses on identifying the eating disorder voice as a cognitive distortion and developing methods of "talking back to the eating disorder". The group explores and corrects the relationship among thoughts, feelings and behaviors and provides education and practice for emotional regulation. The group also allows clients to learn behaviors to better prevent and cope with stress, negative thoughts, emotions and potential relapse.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Groups
DBT-Skills Group focuses on developing new skills to cultivate mindful awareness, cope with distress, learn new methods of regulating emotions, and foster acceptance of self and others.
DBT-Emotional Regulation Group assists clients in learning new ways to identify, accept, and cope with difficult emotions.
DBT-Mindfulness Group emphasizes the capacity to pay attention to the present moment. Through mindfulness and relaxation training, clients in this group learn ways to live in the present, experiencing their emotions and senses with understanding and perspective instead of judgment.
Body Integration Group
Clients learn how to become more comfortable in their own bodies and recognize and address distortions in their body image and awareness. They learn to separate their body from their identity while integrating body, spirit and mind.
Identity, Strengths & Values Group
Clients focus on developing and strengthening their authentic selves, including their talents, abilities, and ideals.
Women's Issues Group
Clients examine their roles as women and identify ways in which their eating disorder has impacted their womanhood. The purpose of this group is to challenge clients to take an introspective look at what defines them as women, examining those influences that have most affected them, and to empower them to embrace their gender and the path towards womanhood.
Groups with a Medical and Nutritional Focus

Health and Wellness Group
This group educates clients about their bodies' needs and basic physiology, addressing both the impact of eating disorders on the body and ways to promote healing and wellness.
Nutrition Group
This group educates clients about their nutritional needs, promoting healthy eating and exercise.
Cooking Class
Led by a contracted chef, this group provides clients with hands-on experience in preparing meals.
Affirmation and Appreciation
Each day after dinner, clients are asked to reflect on how they are experiencing food in their lives at the moment and in the past. Clients reflect on their day, express gratitude and appreciation, and share affirmations with other clients.
Groups with a Relationship Focus

Boundaries Group
Clients process and work through relationship dynamics and learn healthy ways of relating to others.
Relationships Group
This group explores family dynamics that may be impacted by eating disorders and provides a forum for clients to discuss the treatment process.
Community Group
Clients meet to discuss issues related to the Magnolia Creek community and plan their recreational outings. During this group, they also plan for community service activities, which occur once a month. Clients are provided with funds for outings so that they can learn to work together as a group and practice budgeting money.
Groups with an Experiential Focus

Psychodrama Group
Clients are encouraged explore healthy coping skills by creating symbols, building connections, and moving deeper into recovery through involvement in each activity. Psychodrama exercises produce metaphors for the client to use in forming new thoughts, new coping skills, and a new way of life.
Expressive Arts Group
In this group, clients use art to provide a creative outlet for difficult emotions. Research has shown that art therapy provides an aspect of emotional healing that may not be attained by other therapeutic modalities.
Gratitude Group
Clients focus on fostering gratitude through various techniques, including guided imagery, writing exercises and other experiential methods.
Groups with a Physical Focus

Yoga
Clients participate in gentle hatha yoga, which builds strength, flexibility, and balance in their bodies and their lives. The practice of yoga encourages healing, peace of mind, and a strengthening of the mind-body connection.
Grand Jete Fitness
Grand Jete sessions include classical ballet techniques and maximum use of the ballet barre for strength training and deep, effective stretching.
Walking
Walks are incorporated for physical activity, to promote interaction with nature and reduce depression. Clients are encouraged to enjoy the beautiful outdoors as a way of relaxation and reflection.
Self Defense
This group is held every other week and taught by an outside instructor. During self defense, clients learn techniques to stand up for themselves and protect themselves. This is an empowering group that allows for growth in self acceptance and courage.
Groups with a Recovery Focus

Goal Planning Group
Clients reflect and assess goals from the previous week and propose new goals for the coming week, as they progress through the recovery process. The proposed goals are submitted to the multi-disciplinary treatment team, who review the individual plan to ensure that the goals are appropriate for the client's current stage of recovery.
