Often the hardest work begins when treatment ends. At Magnolia Creek, we recognize that providing support and continuity between treatment and home is essential to a successful recovery.

During treatment, we work closely with each client to develop an After Care Plan that is individualized to meet her specific needs. After treatment is completed, we provide follow-up services, therapy, and workshops to ensure that our alumnae and their families continue to receive professional support.

After Care Planning During Treatment

Clients begin focusing on After Care early in the treatment process to ensure that they have the support that they will require upon discharge. Weekly Goals Planning and Relapse Prevention groups help our clients plan for those needs.

If there are any gaps in a client's treatment plan, our staff will assist her in locating and contacting the appropriate resources. We maintain a current resource list with outpatient dietitians, therapists, psychiatrists, medical doctors and physical trainers so that each client can be provided with referrals where necessary.

After Care Followup Services

Members of our staff follow up with each client at regular intervals after her discharge to check in with her, receive feedback, and, when necessary, provide encouragement and guidance on maintaining her After Care Plan.

After Care Therapy Group for Alumnae of ALL Treatment Centers

Transition from treatment can often be one of the most difficult times in recovery. We are committed to providing support and care free of charge for not only Magnolia Creek graduates, but also alumnae from other programs who wish to connect with others in recovery.

Facilitated by clinical psychologist, Chebon Porter, PhD and Steve Moore, LCSW, this weekly group provides a forum for addressing issues pertinent to establishing and maintaining recovery following treatment.

Graduates of other eating disorder treatment programs are invited to participate and asked to meet the following requirements:

  • Intake interview with one of the group facilitators to determine if the group is an appropriate fit for the pertinent level of care
  • Must be female and 17 or older
  • Must have completed treatment from a facility within the last year or as otherwise agreed upon by the group facilitators
  • Must live within driving distance of Birmingham

Reunion Weekends and Workshops

Several times a year, Magnolia Creek invites former clients back to the center for a Reunion Weekend. These gatherings provide them a chance to reconnect with staff members, catch up with friends made during treatment, and encourage and reinforce their commitment to recovery.

Reunion Weekends often feature special activities, groups and panels specifically targeted towards recovery. Past activities have included tree planting ceremonies, drum circles, ropes course climbing, a holiday survival workshop, and a 12-step workshop.
