Why Choose Magnolia Creek

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt within the heart.
- Helen Keller

We believe in you - and your recovery.

We look beyond the symptoms and behaviors of an eating disorder to honor the strengths and assets within each woman who comes through our doors. Our approach is collaborative, and our clients actively participate in each stage of the treatment process, including establishing goals and evaluating progress on a weekly basis.

Magnolia Creek feels like home.

Magnolia Creek is located in the countryside on thirty-six wooded acres with a private stocked lake. Our lush property attracts wildlife and offers many areas for walking and quiet reflection, helping our clients cultivate a sense of inner peace and a strong connection to nature. Our center is housed in a spacious converted residence, offering the warm comforts of home and family-style meals with our staff.

Our program is small and personal.

We admit no more than 10 clients at one time to each program in order to maintain a small, intimate setting and intensive, personalized care. And to ensure that each client receives focused and individual attention, our primary therapists carry a client load of no more than three clients at one time.

We have both professional and personal experiences with eating disorders.

Our executive director and medical director have exclusively treated eating disorders for a combined total of more than thirty years. In addition, many of our key staff members are recovered from eating disorders themselves, so they understand what our clients are going through and can provide them with positive role models for recovery.

We are here for you - 24 hours a day.

Few treatment centers of our size offer nursing care around the clock, but Magnolia Creek has a nurse and staff counselor available 24-7 to meet the needs of our clients. In addition, we have at least one primary therapist on site from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm, leading groups well into the evening hours on weekdays. They provide a constant and reassuring presence from the time clients are up until before they begin retiring for the evening.

We are here for your families, too.

We promote family involvement in the recovery process, hosting a Family Night each week and a Family Weekend every four to six weeks. Family Nights offer local and visiting families regular education about eating disorders and a therapist-led support group. Family Weekends are longer, more intensive gatherings filled family therapy, education, and activities to promote reconnection and healing.

We care about what happens to you after treatment.

We start After Care planning early on in treatment to ensure that each client will have the support she needs upon discharge. We provide a weekly, psychologist-led, After Care Therapy Group free of charge for alumnae living in Birmingham area, as well as reunion weekends and workshops several times a year for our alumnae to reconnect and recommit to living in recovery.

We believe in giving back to our community.

Magnolia Creek is very active in our local community, offering free support groups, speaking at schools and universities, and sponsoring various workshops and activities to promote awareness and support for eating disorders treatment in the Birmingham area and throughout the state of Alabama. This love of community extends to our own clients, as well, who come together each month to volunteer for a local non-profit.
