We recommend that you bring a limited amount of clothing and personal belongings, at most 2 suitcases and 1 carry-on. (Please make sure each item of luggage has an identifying tag on it.) We request that you bring as few valuables as possible (e.g., jewelry) as Magnolia Creek will not be responsible for lost or stolen items. You will have a bedside nightstand with a lock.

What We Provide

• Each room is furnished with a comfortable bed, nightstand, dresser, and closet space for clothing. We provide linens and towels.
• There are laundry facilities available for clients in the house to use on specified days of the week. We provide detergent and fabric softener.
• We do have a computer with Internet access (for use once you are given computer privileges) and a private phone line for use during personal and free time. Local and domestic long distance calls are free. Families are discouraged from calling clients while in treatment as times for personal phone calls are assigned by treatment team.  In case of emergencies, families can contact staff at (205) 678-4373.  

Recommended Clothing

Life at Magnolia Creek is based on a home-like environment, so staff and clients are encouraged to dress casually and comfortably, yet appropriately. Many activities take place on the property, so you will want to wear comfortable clothes. During the summer months, you may want to wear shorts and during the winter months, you may want to wear jeans or sweats. You may also want to bring at least one dress, skirt, or nice pair of pants for some of the outings. Other items you may want to bring: 

• A lightweight jacket and/or sweater
• A heavier coat or jacket for winter months
• Hiking boots and/or tennis shoes (Bring at least two pairs of outdoor shoes, in case of muddy weather.)
• Sunglasses and hat or visor for outside activities

Recommended Personal Items

• Identification card (e.g., driver's license), insurance card, pharmacy prescription card, and credit card (which will be required by Southern Pharmaceuticals for medication expenses).
• Small amount of money (less than $200) for spending on outings. Most outings are paid for by Magnolia Creek, but you are responsible for buying your own toiletries, etc. on outings. You are responsible for the management of your own monies and funds.
• Clients are encouraged to bring any of the following items for comfort: loofah, favorite pillow and blanket, minimum of 1 stuffed animal only, photos, books and music.
• Any prescription medications that you bring in to the facility must be in their original container.
• Ipod, radio, Kindle, laptop, cell phone*
• Additionally, please complete the form for current treatment providers and bring the two pages with you on admission day.

Things to Leave at Home

• Calculators; cameras; DVDs and DVD players 
• Non-prescription medications, vitamins, diet pills, diuretics, laxatives, stool softeners
• Tobacco products, including cigarettes**
• Artificial sweeteners or water flavoring packets
• Fashion magazines
• Food, beverages, gum, candy
• Scissors, pocketknives, letter openers, sharp craft tools, wire hangers, bobby pins, lighters
• Aerosol hairspray or deodorant
• Acetone-based products; fluoride rinse and mouthwash (unless accompanied by a physician’s order)
• Personal vehicle (unless other arrangements have been made prior to admission).

Things to Note

**Magnolia Creek is a non-smoking facility.

*Ipods, radios, and hand-held electronic devices to be used during free-time only; Laptops are only allowed for PHP clients and will be stored in the contraband closet until the client steps down to PHP; Cell phones are not allowed to be used on-campus.  They will be stored in the contraband closet until the client steps down to PHP.

*You may bring a razor that will be stored for you and can be “checked out” by staff for your personal use.

*Items brought in that are deemed inappropriate will be thrown away on site or mailed to your home address at your expense.

PLEASE NOTE:  Not included in Magnolia Creek’s daily rate are prescription medications and lab work as we utilize two vendors for these purposes (prescription medications: Southern Pharmaceuticals and lab work: Quest Diagnostics).  These two vendors will file claims with your insurance company directly and you will be responsible for any remaining balances not paid by your insurance company.   Also note, if for some reason you request not to utilize Southern Pharmaceuticals for your prescription medications (i.e. you are already signed up for a mail order prescription service or prefer to use another pharmacy, such as Wal-Mart), there may be delays in receiving medications.
