Magnolia Creek Begins Collaborative Research Study with International Suicide Expert Thomas E. Joiner, Jr., Ph.D.

Treatment center to collaborate with international suicide expert on research exploring relationship between eating disorders and suicide.

BIRMINGHAM, AL (7/2/2010) - "We are very excited about this research endeavor on suicide and self-harm," says Dr. Nicole Siegfried, Magnolia Creek Clinical Director. She adds that, "Consistent with the research, we have seen such an overlap between self-harm/suicidality and eating disorders. This study will allow us to meet the needs of our clients even better."

"Most mental health practitioners across disciplines report high anxiety when working with clients who present as suicidal," adds Dr. Mary Bartlett, Magnolia Creek's Suicide Prevention and Risk Consultant, "we hope this work will contribute a larger body of literary knowledge to enhance the understanding and efforts of practitioners to best serve those recovering from eating disorders and their struggle with suicidal thinking."

Magnolia Creek and Dr. Joiner's research team at Florida State University are eager to begin what appears to be a long-standing partnership of ground-breaking research and subsequent improvements in patient care. Dr. Joiner's accomplished and thorough research combined with Magnolia Creek's high-quality and accredited level of care will enable a greater understanding of the relationship between eating disorders and suicide and thus result in more informed and quality treatment of those suffering.
