Eating disorder treatment center lures Jim Palmer out of retirement to head their operations.
BIRMINGHAM, AL (8/15/07) -- Magnolia Creek Residential Treatment Center for Eating Disorders has announced the appointment of James (Jim) L. Palmer as their Chief Executive Officer. Jim brings more than 30 years of health care management and leadership to the treatment facility, which opened its doors to residents earlier this year.
For the past 25 years, Jim managed the Veteran Administration's Southeastern Blind Rehabilitation Center (SBRC) in Birmingham, a 32-bed residential treatment program for veterans receiving comprehensive training in adjustment to sight loss. He retired last year as their Assistant Director. During his time at the SBRC, he also set up the hospital's non-profit research corporation of which he has been the Executive Director for the past 17 years. Jim holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
"We feel very lucky to have someone with Jim's management experience and professionalism," says Nicole Siegfried, PhD, clinical director. "In his short time here, he has already done so much to improve Magnolia Creek's efficiency and organization."
Jim is already a familiar presence to the employees and residents of Magnolia Creek, as he had volunteered his time and skills to build furniture and install fixtures prior to the center's opening. Many were unaware of his extensive background in health care administration until his name came forward as a candidate for CEO.
"Magnolia Creek's potential for making a positive impact on eating disorders drew me out of retirement," says Jim. "They have built a clinical program of the highest quality, and I am eager to bring their business operations up to that level."
Fortunately for the facility, Jim continues to bring his toolbox to work, along with his laptop.
