radio microphoneClinical director Nicole Siegfried will be a featured guest on the premiere of "The Mind of the Matter" on Voice America web-based radio next week.

In an episode titled "The Secret Life of Eating Disorders," Dr Siegfried will be speaking with host Susan Hickman about Magnolia Creek, struggles with eating disorders, aspects of the treatment program, our research studies, and important factors in recovery.

From their website:

The statistics on eating disorders are staggering, including the fact that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. The National Eating Disorder Association states that an estimated 10 million females and 1 million males suffer from Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa, while millions more suffer from Binge Eating Disorder. Although some protective factors have been noted for certain groups, no society studied appears to be immune to developing the disorder. The alarming news is that the last two decades have witnessed an unprecedented growth in the disorder, with newly diagnosed cases reaching into early childhood.  Despite these daunting findings, eating disorders continue to be  under-funded in research, receive grossly inadequate insurance coverage and the societal pressure to be thin continues unabated.  To learn more about the symptoms and treatment of eating disorders,
please invite others and tune into the show. Together we can make a  difference.

The show is scheduled to air on the Variety channel of Voice America on Thursday, November 3 and Thursday, November 10 at 6:00 am PST (8:00 am CST) and again at 6:00 pm (8:00 pm CST). The show will be archived as well and be made available as a free download from iTunes.

Be sure to mark your calendars!

Fat Talk Free WeekFat Talk describes all of the statements made in everyday conversation that reinforce the thin ideal and contribute to women's dissatisfaction with their bodies. And Fat Talk doesn't necessarily have to be negative; they can seem positive yet reinforce the need to be thin.

By eliminating Fat Talk, we can begin to change the way we think about our bodies...for the better.

Tri-Delta is again teaming up with sponsors like the Academy for Eating Disorders, the National Eating Disorders Association, the National Organization for Women and others to promote "Fat Talk Free Week." It’s an awareness effort to draw attention to the damaging impact of fat talk and the "thin ideal" on today’s women in society.

So make a pledge this week amongst your friends and family to bury the fat talk. In fact, make pledge not to say anything negative related to appearances in general - it’s actually going to be a lot harder than you think.

Join us for a Fat Talk Free Presentation at University of Alabama Tuscaloosa

In recognition of "Fat Talk Free Week," executive director Nicole Siegfried will be speaking at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa this week.

  • Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Please come and join us and show your support!
