Leslie Plaia, M.Ed., LPC


Clinical Director

Leslie is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who holds a master's degree in Community Agency Counseling from University of Montevallo and a bachelor's degree in Theatre and English Literature from Birmingham-Southern College. She is currently pursing her Certified Eating Disorders Specialist designation. Leslie's clinical experience includes working with individuals impacted by eating disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and process addictions. Leslie previously served as a primary therapist at Magnolia Creek from 2012-2014 and an adjunct therapist from 2015-2016. Prior to returning to the Magnolia Creek staff full-time in 2016, she was a primary therapist at an addiction treatment center. 

Leslie is a member of the American Counseling Association as well as the Alabama Counseling Association. Her therapeutic interests include eating disorders, substance use disorders, process addictions, trauma, and women's issues. She has presented on topics including the over-sexualization of girls, the media's influence on teens, and adolescent substance use. She has participated in specialized training in Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and experiential therapy. Born in Knoxville and raised in Pittsburgh, Leslie has called the Magic City "home" since 2004. She spends most of her time renovating her new/old house with her husband, reading, making crafts, and assisting in local theatre productions.
